Low osmolality modular proteins reduce tube feed diarrhea.

One question we get a lot: Are there any tolerance issues with ProSource TF or ProSource No Carb for tube feeding?
This is an important question since nearly 60% of tube feed patients will experience diarrhea and the clinician and nursing do not want to use a product that will contribute to it. This is where the low osmolality of our liquid proteins is important. At 360- 380 mOsm/ kg of water, ProSource TF and No Carb are virtually isotonic (think Gatorade) and will not contribute to osmotic diarrhea.
Some liquid proteins being sold- especially those made with glycerin- have osmolalities as high as 3,500 mOsm which will virtually assure the patient will experience diarrhea. Using a liquid protein that does not contribute to tube feed related diarrhea benefits the patient, nursing and even environmental services.11444 ProSource TF
